Tour Highlights:
Depart Cairo for Alexandria to explore the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the Roman Amphitheatre, Pompey’s Pillar, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Continue with visits to Saint Mark's Church, the Abbo Elabbas Mosque, the exterior of Citadel of Qaitbay, the royal Montaza Gardens, and the scenic Mediterranean coastline before returning comfortably to your hotel in Cairo.
We will pick you up directly from your hotel in Cairo and set off toward Alexandria. The first stop is the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman burial site in Egypt, featuring three rock-cut subterranean levels. Next, visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria, which showcases an outdoor display of submerged archaeological relics discovered beneath Alexandria's East Harbor. You will also pass by Pompey’s Pillar and pause for photos (the monumental column was erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century).
The next highlight is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the world’s largest library with a collection capacity of 8 million volumes. Visit its expansive open plaza featuring the statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, retrieved from the seabed nearby.
Continue by visiting the President Sadat Museum and the Alexandria Impressions Exhibition.
(Note: Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on all official public holidays).
Next, drive to Saint Mark’s Church—the oldest church in Africa. Along the route, admire the historic downtown quarters featuring classic Baroque architecture alongside French and Italian facades.
For lunch, you have the option of dining at a modern Mediterranean seafood restaurant or at Alexandria’s famous culinary landmark, Mohamed Ahmed's restaurant—beloved by celebrities and international royalty, including the Queen of Spain.
Pass by the Abbo Elabbas Mosque (photo stop), the city's grandest and most striking Islamic landmark. Directly opposite the mosque is a nostalgic local fairground where children enjoy vintage carousels and cotton candy.
Across the street lies the Corniche and the old fishing harbor, where traditional wooden boats, fishermen mending nets, and waterfront vistas offer classic photo opportunities. Next, visit the exterior of Citadel of Qaitbay, erected on the exact foundation of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The coastal fortress is spectacular and ideal for photography.
Afterward, head toward Montaza Palace and Royal Gardens. En route, make a quick 2-minute drive-thru stop at "King of Mango" for freshly squeezed tropical juices and take a photo stop at Alexandria's Unknown Soldier Memorial. The picturesque coastal drive spans approximately 25 kilometers, showcasing scenic sea vistas and the ancient sunken harbor where over 7,000 submerged artifacts were retrieved.
Upon arriving at Montaza Gardens—popularly known as the "Garden of Love" among couples and families—stroll through the royal grounds of King Farouk (the last king of Egypt). View the royal palaces of Al-Haramlik and As-Salamlek, walk across the famous Montaza Bridge to Tea Palace Island, and admire the royal beaches.
On the return leg, stop at the landmark Stanley Bridge, the architectural icon of modern Alexandria, before traveling comfortably back to your hotel in Cairo. Alexandria offers endless sights, flavors, and markets to explore. If your schedule allows and you would like to include additional stops, let us know and we will arrange them at direct operational cost—with no added commission.
