Alexandria Sightseeing Day Tour

Schedule: Daily

Duration: Approximately 5–6 Hours

Pickup Time: 9:00 AM (Flexible timing upon request)

Tour Highlights

Your Ramasside Tours guide will meet you directly at your hotel to begin a comprehensive discovery of Alexandria.

Visit the world-renowned Bibliotheca Alexandrina, explore the Roman Amphitheatre at Kom El Dikka, and step inside Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral—the oldest church in Africa. Enjoy a guided walking tour through historic Old Town alleys and traditional bazaars. Along the way, pause for photos outside the grand Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque and the 15th-century Citadel of Qaitbay. Continue along the scenic Mediterranean coastline to explore the historic Montaza Palace Gardens before returning comfortably across Stanley Bridge to your hotel.

Detailed Itinerary

Morning Hotel Pickup & Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Your Ramasside Tours Egyptologist guide will meet you in your hotel lobby holding a personalized sign. Step into a modern, climate-controlled vehicle and head toward the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the world’s major intellectual monument housing up to 8 million books.

Tour the expansive open plaza to view submerged antiquities salvaged from the Mediterranean, including colossal granite statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I. Learn about the library’s contemporary disc architecture representing the rising Mediterranean sun.

(Note: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and public holidays. Reading room access requires a dedicated entrance ticket).

The Roman Amphitheatre & Saint Mark’s Cathedral

Proceed to Kom El Dikka to visit the Roman Amphitheatre, the sole preserved classical amphitheater in Egypt. Explore Roman mosaic floors, lecture halls, and open-air displays of sunken artifacts recovered from Alexandria's Eastern Harbor.

Next, drive to Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, historically revered as the oldest Christian foundation on the African continent, established by the Apostle Mark in 68 AD.

Old Town Quarters, Traditional Souks & Local Gastronomy

Take a guided walking tour through the atmospheric heart of Alexandria’s Old Town. Admire historic Mediterranean architecture featuring French, Italian, and Baroque influences. Wander through vibrant market corridors where local purveyors sell regional spices, fabrics, and traditional Egyptian sweets.

  • Optional Dining: Savor lunch at an authentic seaside seafood restaurant or visit the historic Mohamed Ahmed restaurant, an Alexandrian staple visited by the Queen of Spain and international dignitaries.
  • Optional Leisure: Relax at a traditional cafe or open-air ahwa along the Corniche for mint tea and Egyptian coffee.

Continue through Manshiya’s historic shopping quarters, including the narrow lanes of Zan'et El-Setat (women’s traditional market) and the Gold Market.

Abu al-Abbas Mosque, Fishing Port & Qaitbay Citadel

Pause at the Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, the city's largest and most iconic Islamic landmark, for photos. Across the boulevard, overlook the working Eastern Harbor to see local fishermen mending nets alongside traditional wooden boats.

Drive to the northern edge of the harbor to view the exterior ramparts of the Citadel of Qaitbay, built in 1477 AD on the exact footprint of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Mango Stop, Corniche Drive & Montaza Palace Gardens

Travel eastward along the Mediterranean Corniche toward Montaza Palace (approx. 25 km). En route, make a brief stop to taste freshly pressed mango juice at Alexandria’s famous fruit stalls, and pause for photos by the Unknown Soldier Memorial. Take in panoramic sea vistas overlooking ancient submerged ruins across the coastline.

Arrive at the 150-acre royal estate of Montaza Palace Gardens (historically known as the "Garden of Love"). Stroll through royal palm and pine groves established during the reign of King Farouk, the last reigning monarch of Egypt. View the architectural façades of Al-Haramlik and Al-Salamlik palaces, and walk across the landmark bridge toward Tea Island and the royal beachfront.

Return Drive via Stanley Bridge

On your return drive, cross Stanley Bridge—the modern architectural emblem of the city—to enjoy views over the Mediterranean surf before arriving back comfortably at your hotel.
