Private Alexandria Day Tour From Cairo

Schedule:

Daily

Duration:

10–12 Hours

Pickup Time:

7:00 AM – We can adjust the pickup time to suit your schedule.

Tour Highlights:

Your excursion begins with a visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the world’s largest library housing 8 million books. You will have the opportunity to view the impressive statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, retrieved underwater. The guide will explain the library’s architectural design, and you will have ample time for photographs. The tour also includes visits to the Roman Amphitheatre and the open-air sunken monuments exhibition, as well as the historic Church of Saint Mark and the traditional downtown markets. You can enjoy lunch at a modern Mediterranean seafood restaurant or at a famous traditional eatery. The tour continues through the narrow alleys of Mansheya and the Gold Souk, with a stop at Alexandria's largest mosque, Abbo Elabbas. You will also visit the Citadel of Qaitbay and take in panoramic views of the royal Montaza Gardens before returning comfortably to your hotel in Cairo.

Tour Details

You will be transferred from your hotel in Cairo to Alexandria. Your tour begins with a visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, one of the largest libraries in the world, holding up to 8 million volumes. You will have the chance to see the statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, which were retrieved from the seabed nearby. Your guide will explain the exterior architecture of the library, with time for landmark photography.

(Please note: Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and public holidays. Reading area admission requires an on-site ticket).

Next, visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria and the outdoor exhibition of submerged archaeological artifacts recovered beneath Alexandria’s East Harbor.

Proceed to Saint Mark’s Church, the oldest church in Africa, and take a walking tour through the traditional downtown markets of Alexandria, where classic Egyptian pastries, sweets, and local goods are sold. Observe local architectural influences featuring Baroque elements alongside Italian and French facades.

Enjoy lunch at a modern seafood restaurant or at Alexandria’s iconic traditional eatery, "Mohamed Ahmed’s"—a beloved local landmark that has hosted numerous celebrities and international dignitaries, including the Queen of Spain.

(Optional): Take a relaxing break at an upscale café or a traditional local café serving shisha.

The tour continues through the historic quarter of Mansheya, exploring the narrow alleys of the historic women's bazaar (Zan'et El Setat) and the glittering Gold Souk. Stop for photos outside the Abbo Elabbas Mosque, the grandest and most beautiful mosque in Alexandria. Nearby, you will find a nostalgic vintage fairground where local children enjoy classic carousels and cotton candy.

Directly across the street is the Mediterranean shoreline, the old fishing harbor, and traditional wooden boats with local fishermen. Continue with a visit to the Citadel of Qaitbay, constructed on the exact site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—providing excellent photo opportunities.

Next, drive toward Montaza Palace and Royal Gardens. Along the route, make a quick 2-minute drive-thru stop at "King of Mango" for freshly squeezed tropical juices and a photo stop at Alexandria's Unknown Soldier Memorial. Enjoy scenic coastline views along the approximately 25-kilometer drive leading to Montaza.

Upon arriving at Montaza Gardens, explore the royal grounds of King Farouk (the last king of Egypt) and view the historic Al-Haramlik and As-Salamlek palaces. Stroll across the famous Montaza Bridge and take in views of Tea Palace Island and the royal beaches.

On your return drive, pass by the modern landmark of Alexandria, Stanley Bridge, before traveling comfortably back to your hotel in Cairo.

Alexandria offers endless opportunities for sightseeing, cultural discovery, gastronomy, and shopping. If time permits and you wish to add extra activities or attractions, please let us know. We can arrange any additions at direct operational cost.

(Please note that comfortable, closed walking shoes are recommended during the excursion).
