Depart early toward El Alamein to explore the historic site of one of the most critical tank and infantry battles of World War II. Continue the drive along the turquoise Mediterranean shoreline to Marsa Matrouh for a relaxing seaside lunch.
From Marsa Matrouh, head south into the Western Desert toward the secluded haven of Siwa Oasis (approximately a 4-to-5-hour scenic desert drive). Upon arrival, tour the ancient 13th-century mud-brick fortress of Shali (Old Siwa), climbing its elevated labyrinths for panoramic oasis views over date palm groves and salt lakes.
In the evening, enjoy an authentic Bedouin dinner prepared with regional desert ingredients. Transfer to Siwa Paradise Hotel (or similar) for check-in. Overnight in Siwa.
Breakfast at the hotel. Begin your morning exploration at the Mountain of the Dead (Gabal al-Mawta), a limestone hill honeycombed with rock-cut tombs dating from the 26th Dynasty through the Ptolemaic and Roman eras. View intricately painted funerary chambers, including the Tomb of Si-Amun, the Tomb of Mesu-Isis, and the Crocodile Tomb.
Continue to the Temple of the Oracle of Amun (Aghurmi), where Alexander the Great sought confirmation of his divine heritage in 331 BC, followed by the nearby Temple of Umm Ubayd. Refresh at the legendary spring of Cleopatra’s Bath (Ein Guba), a natural stone-walled pool surrounded by palms.
Enjoy lunch at a local oasis restaurant before embarking on an exciting 4x4 desert safari across the towering dunes of the Great Sand Sea. Experience dune bashing, visit peaceful desert hot and cold springs, and discover fossil beds. Following the safari adventure, board your private vehicle for the comfortable journey back to your hotel in Alexandria.
Upgrade your road journey to an executive luxury minivan featuring extended legroom, dual-zone climate control, chilled bottled beverages, and generous luggage capacity.
