Overnight Alexandria Tour from Cairo

Schedule: Daily

Tour Duration: 2 Days

Departure Time: 7:00 AM

Tour Overview

On Day 1, you will be picked up from your hotel in Cairo and driven to Alexandria. Your tour begins with a visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman funerary complex consisting of three levels cut deep into bedrock. Continue to the Roman Amphitheatre and Pompey’s Pillar for a memorable photo stop. Explore the historic interior and battlements of the Citadel of Qaitbay, then head to the Great Bibliotheca Alexandrina to admire statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, the main reading hall, the Sadat Museum, and the Impressions of Alexandria Museum. Enjoy lunch at a modern seafood venue or at Alexandria’s famous traditional eatery, "Mohamed Ahmed," followed by visits to the Church of Saint Mark and the Mosque of Prophet Daniel. In the evening, choose an optional dinner at the Greek Club overlooking the Mediterranean coastline.

On Day 2, visit the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque, explore the historic fishing harbor, and return to the coastal views surrounding Qaitbay Citadel. Continue to the Montaza Palace Gardens to view the royal palace, cross the Montaza bridge, and make a quick photo stop at Stanley Bridge before returning comfortably to Cairo. This package includes an overnight hotel stay in Alexandria with breakfast, admission tickets to all mentioned sights, private air-conditioned transport, an experienced Egyptologist guide, and all service charges and taxes.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Cairo – Alexandria Discovery Tour

Your guide will meet you at your Cairo hotel for your drive to Alexandria. Begin at the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the grandest Roman catacomb network in Egypt, excavated across three subterranean tiers. Next, visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria and view the open-air sunken antiquities salvaged from the Eastern Harbour. Stop at Pompey’s Pillar for photography before touring inside the Citadel of Qaitbay to take pictures across its historic stone ramparts.

Continue to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a world-class cultural complex holding millions of books. Tour the open plaza to view statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I (excavated underwater nearby), the expansive main reading pavilion, the Sadat Museum, and the Impressions of Alexandria exhibition.

(Note: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and public holidays).

Savor lunch at a modern seafood restaurant or at Alexandria’s renowned local institution, "Mohamed Ahmed." Next, visit Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral—the oldest historic Christian church site in Africa—and the Mosque of Prophet Daniel before checking into your hotel.

(Optional) Evening dinner outing at the Greek Club, enjoying fresh Mediterranean dining paired with seaside night views.

Overnight in Alexandria.

Day 2: Alexandria Highlights – Return to Cairo

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, where your Ramasside tour guide will meet you in the lobby.

Visit the Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, the largest and most architecturally striking mosque in Alexandria. Stroll by the vintage fairground adjacent to the mosque where local children enjoy classic rides and cotton candy.

Stop for lunch at a fresh seafood restaurant or return to "Mohamed Ahmed" for authentic local specialties.

Explore Alexandria's historic harbor promenade to see colorful vintage wooden boats and watch traditional fishermen at work. Trace the coastline past the Citadel of Qaitbay, erected on the original foundation of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, on your way toward the Montaza Palace complex. En route, enjoy a brief refreshment stop at "King of Mango" for fresh seasonal juices and view the Alexandria Unknown Soldier Memorial. At Montaza, wander the royal gardens once owned by King Farouk (the last reigning monarch of Egypt), walk across the Montaza bridge, and view the Tea Palace Island along the royal private beaches.

On your return journey toward Cairo, make a final photo stop at Stanley Bridge, an iconic modern landmark of the city. Arrive back at your Cairo hotel by evening.
