Schedule: Daily
Tour Duration: 10 to 12 Hours
Departure Time: 7:00 AM (flexible to suit your schedule)
Your journey begins with a visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, one of the world's greatest cultural landmarks, currently holding up to 8 million books. Admire impressive statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I that were recovered from underwater excavations. Your guide will highlight the distinctive architecture of the complex with dedicated time for photography. The tour also includes the Roman Amphitheatre and its sunken antiquities gallery, the ancient Church of Saint Mark, and central Alexandria's vibrant historic markets. Enjoy lunch at a modern seaside restaurant or at a famous traditional culinary venue. Continue through the historic alleys of Mansheya and the Gold Market, stopping at the grand Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque. Tour the Citadel of Qaitbay, take in the scenery of the royal Montaza Palace and Gardens, and conclude with a comfortable return transfer to your Cairo hotel.
You will be transferred directly from your hotel in Cairo to Alexandria. Begin your day exploring the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, home to millions of volumes. View the sunken statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I salvaged from the Mediterranean seabed. Your guide will showcase the exterior architecture, leaving ample time for photos.
(Please note: The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and public holidays; access to the main reading hall requires an admission ticket).
Visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria and the dedicated open-air exhibit displaying submerged artifacts salvaged from Alexandria's Eastern Harbour.
Head to Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church—the oldest historic Christian church site in Africa—and wander through the traditional downtown market district, home to local confectioners and historic merchant shops displaying Baroque, Italian, and French architectural influences.
Enjoy lunch at a modern Mediterranean seafood venue or at Alexandria's historic food institution "Mohamed Ahmed," which has hosted celebrated figures throughout history, including the Queen of Spain.
(Optional: Stop for tea or coffee at an upscale café or a traditional shisha lounge).
Continue through the historic Mansheya quarter, exploring its narrow alleys and the famous Women’s Gold Market (Zanqet El Settat). Stop for photos beside Alexandria's grandest Islamic monument, the Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, adjacent to a vintage community fairground.
Across from the mosque, take in Alexandria’s working harbor lined with traditional wooden fishing boats and local fishermen. Proceed to the 15th-century Citadel of Qaitbay, built upon the exact site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—providing sweeping coastal photo opportunities.
Next, drive toward the Montaza Palace complex. En route, make a two-minute refreshment stop at "King of Mango" for fresh fruit juices and capture photos by Alexandria’s Unknown Soldier Memorial while following the Mediterranean corniche toward the palace gardens roughly 25 km away.
Upon arrival at Montaza, walk through the royal landscapes of King Farouk (the last reigning monarch of Egypt) and view the historic Haramlek and Salamlek palaces. Walk along the landmark Montaza bridge to take in scenic views of the Tea Palace Island and the royal private beaches.
On your return journey, cross Alexandria's modern coastal landmark, Stanley Bridge, before a comfortable drive back to your hotel in Cairo.
