2 Days in Alexandria
Pickup from your hotel and travel to Alexandria. First, visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman burial site, featuring three rock-cut subterranean levels. Next, head to the Roman Amphitheatre of Alexandria, where you can view artifacts and submerged monuments recovered from beneath the city's East Harbor. You will also pass by Pompey’s Pillar and stop for photos (erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century).
Afterward, explore the interior of the Citadel of Qaitbay and take stunning photos both inside and outside the historic fortress.
The next stop is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the world’s largest library, now housing over 8 million volumes. Tour its open plaza to see the statue of Alexander the Great and the statue of Ptolemy I, which was recovered underwater nearby.
Visit the library's grand reading hall, the President Sadat Museum, and the Alexandria Impressions Exhibition.
(Note: Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays and all public holidays).
Optional Lunch: Dine at a modern Mediterranean seafood restaurant or at Alexandria’s famous culinary landmark, Mohamed Ahmed's restaurant—beloved by celebrities, including the Queen of Spain.
Your vehicle will take you to visit Saint Mark’s Church, the oldest church in Africa. Along the drive, observe the historic downtown center and local architecture showcasing Baroque, Italian, and French heritage facades.
Visit the El Nabi Daniel Mosque, locally associated with the legendary tomb of Alexander the Great. It is also believed to hold the remains of the venerated scholar Daniel and his companion Sidi Lokman el Hakim. Afterward, travel comfortably back to your hotel.
(Optional) Evening dinner excursion at the Greek Club Restaurant offering panoramic nighttime views over the Mediterranean coast.
Overnight stay in Alexandria.
Breakfast at the hotel. Your Ramasside Tours guide will meet you in the lobby.
Drive to visit the city’s largest and most beautiful mosque: Abbo Elabbas Mosque, along with the nostalgic vintage fairground outside where local children ride antique wooden carousels and enjoy cotton candy.
Optional Lunch: Dine at a modern seafood restaurant or at the renowned traditional eatery Mohamed Ahmed's.
Opposite the mosque lies the Corniche and the historic fishing harbor, filled with traditional wooden boats, net-mending fishermen, and scenic sea views ideal for photography. Continue along the promenade to view the exterior of Qaitbay Citadel—built on the exact site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—and explore the interior of the fortress.
Next, drive toward Montaza Palace and Royal Gardens. En route, make a quick 2-minute drive-thru stop at "King of Mango" for freshly squeezed tropical juices and take a photo stop at Alexandria's Unknown Soldier Memorial. The scenic 25-kilometer coastal route passes picturesque viewpoints, including the ancient harbor area where over 7,000 submerged artifacts were retrieved.
At Montaza Gardens—popularly known as the "Garden of Love" among couples and families—stroll through the royal gardens of King Farouk (the last king of Egypt). Admire the exterior architecture of Al-Haramlik and As-Salamlek palaces, cross the iconic Montaza Bridge to Tea Palace Island, and look out over the royal beaches.
On the return journey, pause for photos at the landmark Stanley Bridge, the architectural icon of modern Alexandria.
